COMPTEL PLUS 2011 addressed some compelling industry questions in Orlando last week. Discussion topics ranged from business issues, to regulatory issues, to technology. After returning home to New England after a very busy three days, we are reminded about the challenges providers face to maintain or increase revenue in the light of evolving regulatory mandates and network improvements to offer new services.
One important focus event was Light Reading’s LIVE event, “Backhaul Strategies for Competitive Carriers.” This lively discussion led by Heavy Reading Analyst, Patrick Donegan, addressed the opportunities available to Alternative Access Vendors and MSOs in offering backhaul services.
Ethernet will be a driving force in this market, especially for AAVs who will “grow their share of the US cell-site backhaul marketing from 10% today to as much as 40%.” Issues like latency, real time service assurance and synchronization will need to be addressed as well as the need to support high bandwidths and multiple VLANs per tower. According the Nir Halachmi, panelist for Telco Systems, there is growing interest in deploying MPLS at the edge to support these requirements. See our slide show for more insight into this event.
Irit Gillath, director of marketing, re-iterated the MPLS edge solution during her presentation “Extending MPLS to the Edge” at the Speaker’s Corner. If you missed her presentation, you can download it from our website.
We would like to thank you for your interest in the COMPTEL event and the solutions that Telco Systems can offer. Whether you are planning to offer backhaul services, or are just looking for technology alternatives that will meet your network requirements now and in the future, we’re here to help. Check out our range of Ethernet/MPLS edge solutions on our website, or just give us a call to discuss your project in more detail.
