Press Releases 04 May 2009Telco Systems Eases Management of Carrier Ethernet CPE Devices Embedded service mediation management framework supports scalable, secure managementFOXBORO, MA — May 4, 2009 — Telco Systems, a BATM company (LSE: BVC) and a leading provider of Carrier Ethernet access solutions has introduced BiNOS™ Service Mediator, an innovative approach to ease the management, operations and maintenance of Ethernet CPE devices. BiNOS Service Mediator is a distributed software solution that is embedded in the Company’s T-Marc™ Ethernet demarcation devices and T5C-XG aggregation switches. It extends the Company’s multi-lateral management strategy by operating as either a standalone product or interworking with BiNOSCenter™ NG management software. BiNOS Service Mediator automates IP management to make the network more secure and scalable. Several Telco Systems’ customers have standardized on mediation management to monitor customer end points. According to Mark Eagle, Director of Commercial Engineering for Time Warner Cable, “Telco Systems’ Service Mediator technology allows Time Warner to manage the edge device and to control bandwidth, count packets, provision bandwidth requirements as needed -- without routing or entering customer IP space. This allows us to provide improved levels of security and service quality while providing all the benefits of Carrier Ethernet to our customers.” BiNOS Service Mediator consists of manager and agent components, which reside in the T5C-XG aggregation switch and T-Marc demarcation devices, respectively. An IETF standards-based protocol is used for all transactions between manager and agent components, providing secure addressing, authentication, authorization and repudiation. The BiNOS Service Mediator manager ‘listens’ for agent requests from T-Marc devices at customer sites. Once discovered, the mediation manager updates BiNOSCenter NG management system with new devices. Since the management system operates and monitors on the point of aggregation rather than each individual end point, decreased messaging and information aggregation dramatically increase system performance and reduce utilization. For carriers who choose to move all traffic management to the customer edge, the Service Mediator provides a secure demarcation point to prevent theft of service. The Service Mediator requires periodic authentication of the device in order to ensure that the carrier’s device is still connected. If the authentication fails, the mediator manager blocks the port and notifies the network administrator. “BINOS Service Mediator provides clear advantages for simplifying management, maintenance and operations of remote Ethernet CPE devices,” stated Manu Kaycee, vice president of service provider strategies. “In addition to the many benefits of automation, multi-network security concerns are mitigated since devices are invisible and protected from attack. Utilizing strategic service mediation management technologies, Telco Systems’ is poised to extend carrier-class Ethernet services to solve the remote provisioning, management and troubleshooting dilemma many service providers face.” Telco Systems’ Carrier Ethernet T5C-XG service aggregation switches and T-Marc family of Ethernet demarcation devices offer a complete access solution to enable providers to offer a managed Carrier Ethernet service to its commercial customers. BiNOSCenter™ NG provides a comprehensive suite of integrated management tools allowing operators to simplify the configuration, administration, monitoring and troubleshooting of Telco Systems’ BiNOS-powered networking equipment. ### About Telco Systems Telco Systems is a leader in innovative, multi-service Carrier Ethernet access and demarcation solutions to enable carriers and service providers to deploy highly reliable and manageable Ethernet services to both business and residential subscribers.
